At the end of the Last Chance run, the river makes it's way through the Railroad Ranch, also known as Harriman State Park. The ranch was purchased from the Oregon Short Line railroad in 1907 by Edward Henry Harriman. It was operated as a working cattle ranch until the 1960s. The property was transferred to the State of Idaho with stipulations that the wildlife and scenic quality of the area be protected.
